It's a long way from

Lutsen                        to                       Lech!

Life is Good!

Indeed,  from 1958 to 2002, from an all school ski party at Lutsen in our freshman year to a mini reunion four-some at Lech, Austria  -- it seems like only a moment.  Fliegel, Olson, Davidson and McKercher all decided skiing in Europe might be a fitting reprise to Lutsen.  It really was.  All agreed it was one of our best skiing vacations ever.  Some highlights:

bulletA reconnected camaraderie -- the best part.
bulletPulling it off without incident (nothing broken)
bulletProving the "old legs" are still quite functional -- this is a corollary to "the best is yet to come."
bulletGerman Bier ["ein bier bitte" -- thanks Herr Marr].
bulletEating well -- you have no idea how good it was.
bulletAccommodations -- distinctly  upscale from Lutsen.
bulletObserving a very "polite and refined" Austrian society.
bulletCoed saunas au natural -- none of us could remember anything comparable at Lutsen.
bulletWe noticed a distinct improvement in skis, boots and poles -- bear traps and wooden skies are out.

Skiing was superb with  85  lifts serving over  300 square miles of skiing.  This is bigger than Aspen, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk combined.  There were almost no lift lines, great snow and mild weather.  Almost all skiing is above the timber line, which really shows off the expansiveness of the terrain.  We could have skied another week and still not skied it all.

We plan an annual ski event -- stay tuned for next year.

Pictures tell the story -- check them out and eat your hearts out. And,  if you have time, check this story on the area: http://www.skimag.com/article/feature.cfm?alias_id=1280

We flew into Munich and spent our first night there:
